Av, what happened to the forums? They came back online again for a while this morning along with a note about the successful transfer, then disappeared off the face of the earth. Unexpected server troubles?

So if any one coul dtell me where online i could find a map of the grounds that would be greatly appreciated. Again, good job on the site its very interesting.....

Great site, and really useful. Loved the Lister Block stuff. Has anyone visited the old Westinghouse bldg in Hamilton on Westinghouse at Myler off Barton? Curious about that and other Ham sites.

Love your site!!! The photography and commentary are great. I was looking at your gallery of "Oxford Region" pics, and I was intrigued. The province used to run a number of Psychiatric Institutions, I believe up until the 80's. These institutions were shrouded in controversy and allegations of neglect, physical, mental, and sexual abuse. After the government scrapped the program and mothballed the buildings, many truths came to light. I know a man by the name of William. His history is an interesting one. He was institutionalised at a young age, during a period when it was easy to end up in a hospital, as there were some wacked out ideas about mental illness and "retardation". William was placed in a hospital somewhere around Orillia, belived due to an oddly shaped head (ala Grandpa Simpson) and large ears. Turns out that mentally, he was perfectly fine, but from being stuck in an instituton from such a young age, he developed the habits of his peers (down syndrome patients, severely brain damaged, autistic, insane, etc). He was released when the hospital closed and now lives with a local family in the Sault. William is not shy about what happenned to him while institutionalized. He witnessed, testified against, and helped convict two hospital staff members of murder for smothering two of his bunk-mates to death. His testimony was accepted because he was found to be of normal intelligence, although incapable of living on his own due to years in the hospital. To this day, he speaks publicly (if barely audibly) about abuse endured at the hospital, bestowed upon patients by staff, as well as other patients. His life story is a tragic one, yet strangly he remains in good spirits and has a very strong faith. I realize this post is long, but it's a story that needs to be told. so next time you visit an abandoned Psychiatric institution, think of William and the others who suffered inside it's walls. It should make your adventure all the more interesting (and REALLY scary!!)
Thanks
Frank
